What do you think of when you see a classic Volkswagen bus? The summer of ’69? Hippies and flower children frolicking by the beach? Carefree young people crisscrossing the United States having the time of their lives?

Well, it’s time to get back in that groove because the VW bus is officially making a comeback: this year at the Detroit Auto Show, Volkswagen introduced the I.D. Buzz, a tribute to their classic 1960s bus. However, the new model is all-electric. The company plans on having the vehicle in production by 2022.

The I.D. Buzz will utilize VW’s Modular Electric Drive platform, where the batteries and electric motors will be built into the floor so there will be more room for passengers and cargo.

The I.D. Buzz features all-wheel drive and a range of 270 miles. Just like the classic version, the trunk will be in the front of the vehicle. Volkswagen is intent on building the brand into a leader in the electric car field.

Take a look at this video of the new bus and tell me you’re not in love.

I think I better start saving up for one of these beauties if they’re gonna be available in a few years…who’s down for an epic road trip?!?!
