Nerd alert!

I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know, but the obsession with Star Wars will never end. If anything, it just keeps getting stronger as the years go by. Case in point: this fan-made video that recreates an iconic scene from the original 1977 Star Wars film. As of this writing, the video has been viewed over 6 million times.

This new reimagining of the fight between Ben Kenobi and Darth Vader shows what the scene might look like if it was made with today’s outstanding visual technology as opposed to what was available when the film was made more than four decades ago.

For a refresher, here’s the original scene in all its glory.

Very cool, but it admittedly does look dated by today’s standards. The new version was created over the course of two and a half years by a visual effects team called FXitinPost. The title of the video is “Star Wars SC38 Reimagined,” and it is pretty remarkable.

Christopher Clements of FXitinPost said,

“We were inspired by the Vader scene in Rogue One. We felt like the fury and power from that hallway scene should be present in the Vader/Kenobi duel that happens very closely in the Star Wars timeline. It was essential to update the emotion of the scene given the history we are now aware of between these two. Telling the story of these two was our main goal when setting out to create Scene 38.”

Here’s the full video of the “reimagined” scene.
