This Guy Spent a Year Traveling with His Cat in a Camper, and the Pictures Will Melt Your Heart

In May 2015, Rich East decided to sell everything he owned and leave Hobart, Tasmania to travel around Australia. However, there was one thing he wasn’t willing to part with for any amount of time — his cat, Willow.

He decided that a camper van and his best friend went together like peas and carrots, and the pair set off to see the sights.

Since then, they’ve travelled over 70,000km (43,000 miles), exploring forests, deserts, beaches and even the Great Barrier Reef side-by side.

East built the camper van himself and made sure to include plenty of places for his cat to hide so she’d feel at home too.

In late 2017, the pair returned home to Tasmania, but only for a visit.

In 2018, they saw the Simpson Desert, and returned to Australia’s east coast.

She reportedly loves to explore the places they visit (pictures don’t lie!), but wears a tracking collar just in case she gets lost out there in the wilderness.

East says that he needed to make some changes to his life, and that quitting his job to travel has made him happier in the the long run.

Willow has helped him get there by showing him that it doesn’t take a lot of “stuff” to make a person happy.
