Now this is a feel-good story. There’s almost nothing more heartbreaking in this world than a sick child – the toll it takes on them and their families is often enormous.
But at one hospital in Modesto, California, the staff have come up with a creative way to relieve at least a little bit of that anxiety and uncertainty. At the Doctors Medical Center, kids can be seen zooming through the hallways because they’re allowed to drive themselves to surgery in toy cars.
The kids have their choice between a pink Volkswagen Beetle or a black Mercedes. Slick, huh?
The hospital says, “Check it out! Doctors Medical Center has made another addition to our pediatric surgical program. Last year, we introduced our little black Mercedes. Now we have a pink Volkswagen Beetle! These sweet rides take our smallest patients to the operating room. The goal is to reduce anxiety and stress, and make the experience less scary for everyone involved. Doesn’t hurt to have options, right?”
You’re darn right! Get a load of the look on her face.
It would be pretty wonderful if this became a trend at hospitals all over the country.
It put a big smile on your face, didn’t it?
