Vampires still somehow creep their way into TV shows and movies decades after they made their on-screen debut. And while we associate vampires with actors, at one time, people literally believed these blood-thirsty creatures walked the Earth.
Naturally, that necessitated vampire hunters to protect the world from these monsters, right? Of course, these professionals needed to follow specific methods with specific tools in order to carry out their slaying duties.
Recently, a vampire-killing kit went up for auction in the UK, and it’s something to behold!
The 19th-century gothic-inspired kit features crimson silk and Catholic paintings and crosses inside.
So what tools would a vampire hunter have at his (or her) disposal?
Apparently the vampire-slaying kit essentials include a tiny pistol, three crucifixes, a copy of the New Testament, and a silver knife.
Plus, there’s even a jar filled with…shark teeth? Not exactly a tried-and-tested method, but who am I to judge?
Hansons Auctioneers owner Charles Hanson credits books like Dracula and The Vampyre as reasons why vampire-inspired items like the hunting kit draw such heavy interest.
“The task of killing a vampire was extremely serious and historical accounts suggested the need for particular methods and tools.”
The kit expected to fetch between $2,500 to $3,700, which proved to be spot-on.
After a four-day bidding period, the vampire-slaying kit sold for $3,185.
The name of the buyer was not disclosed, but did you know that Ripley’s Believe it Or Not is actually the biggest buyer of these kits?
While the kit seems to include everything you’d need to take down a bloodthirsty foe, authentic kits would also include herbs, holy water, and silver bullets, hopefully whoever purchased the kit doesn’t come face-to-face with a real-life vampire anytime soon. 😉
