Over the past several months, we’ve seen dozens of accusations and admissions of sexual assault come across our news feeds. But whether the assaults were perpetrated by celebrities or previously unknown citizens, it often feels like the apologies offered up are anything but sincere.
And it’s easy to see why, since they seem to consist mostly of excuses, justifications, and the belief that life should go on as if nothing happened – something that’s surely impossible for the victim on the other side of the equation.
At least, that’s how feminist tweeter @KateHarding has been feeling as she watched the news roll. Instead of grumbling about it to her Twitter followers, Kate decided to take a different tact. She started tweeting “apologies” for other illegal acts to prove how ridiculous people are being in accepting these sad, waffling, blame-shirking apologies for sexual assault.
And, surprise to surprise, Twitter recognized the brilliance of her tactic and ran with it in the best possible way.
Be safe out there, friends. Use Twitter for good and not evil!
