What Lies Do People Tell Themselves to Feel Better About Life? Here’s What Folks Had to Say.

No doubt about it, life is tough…

And sometimes, we just have to tell ourselves little lies to get through the day to feel better about our day-to-day routines.

AskReddit users opened up about what lies they tell themselves to feel better.

1. Make it up as you go.

““Everything happens for a reason”

Everything just happens, we make up the reasons afterwards if we survive them.”

2. Ugh.

“”If you can’t handle me at my worst then you don’t deserve me at my best” or any variation of that.”

You’re really just a sh**ty partner and refuse to work on yourself.”

3. Not always.

“That you’ll get rewarded if you just work hard.

Most of the time, hard work is rewarded with more work, or it makes hard work the new standard, so you get punished if you just put in regular effort.”

4. Gotta keep your spirits up.

“It gets better.

10 years later and you still tell yourself that.”

5. Oh, really?

“”Looks don’t matter.”

I’ve noticed that this is generally said by attractive people, and people who have never struggled with dating.”

6. Hmmm…

“Money can’t buy happiness.

Don’t have a house, job, and are starving? Don’t worry, just because you’re poor, doesn’t mean that having a mansion, 5 course meals, or a six digit salary will make you happier!”

7. Nope.

“There is someone out there for everyone.

Not everyone finds their partner, there is no rule love must follow.”

8. Karma?

“That “karma” exists.

Nothing bad is destined to happen to sh**ty people, the same way good things aren’t destined to good people.

Whatever happens is just how it is.”

9. It is what it is.

“Everything happens for a reason, often used to put a positive spin on bad experience, or to view them as a test.

In reality, sometimes sh**ty things happen to people.”

10. Sad, but true.

“That the majority of people have a good soul and a good heart.

I tell myself this all the time. I’m constantly proven wrong.

In reality, the majority of people are selfish and unkind, especially when it comes to other people.”

11. The journey.

““There is light at the end of the tunnel”.

Life is the journey inside that tunnel. Sometimes that journey gets hard, other times it gets easier, but we will never reach that light.

The idea of a perfect place does not exist, because life itself is not perfect as we always have something to complain about.”

12. The future.

“That the good times we have now –cheap and available gasoline, food in abundance, even pleasant weather– can continue indefinitely.

We will run out of Nitrogen for crop growth, we will exhaust the available crude oil, climate change will catch up with us.

Our grandkids will not have the plentiful resources we have enjoyed for decades, period.”

13. A bad one.

“That they’re a perpetual victim and every bad thing that happens in their life is someone else’s fault.”
