Everyone loves the sight of the festive, prettily-wrapped presents under the tree, but few take the time to consider that after all of the gifts are ripped through and opened, the wrapping paper goes into the trash and then into a landfill.
North Carolina costume designer Olivia Mears thinks about it, though, and she’s spent a couple of years repurposing at least some of those colorful scraps into party dresses.
“I’m continuously inspired to find unconventional or recyclable things to make dresses/art out of,” she said about the concept, which she came up with back in 2013.
The dresses are composed of recycled paper, ribbons, bows, and plenty of glitter.
