Woman Shares Some Wild “Twilight” Theories That Might Make You Rethink Everything

Love it or hate it – or even if you’ve never read or seen it – there’s a great chance that you have an opinion on Twilight.

Somehow this novel about a teen romance with a vampire has worked its way into our popular culture conscience, and no, it’s probably never going away.

Which is why I know you’re going to love these fan theories and deep dives on the series from TikToker @twilight_talk – because they really make you think.

When Midnight Sun – the long-anticipated final book from Edward’s point of view – released in August of 2020, this woman (who goes by Elizabeth on TikTok), told Buzzfeed she was “shocked that people were still as interested in Twilight” as she was.

When she started her account it was all about the fashion choices made in the movies, but as more and more people found her content – most after the movies landed on Netflix and people discovered or re-discovered them – it morphed into something totally different (and totally fascinating, too).

“Initially it started as just kind of a niche. I was pointing out fashion trends in the series, and then it grew pretty quickly.”

She discovered after a video talking about how short the series’ timeline is blew up with 3.7 million views that niche Twilight details were coveted material online.

When people began leaving comments with questions about the series, she figured she might as well take them on.

“It really is a continuation of the conversation about Twilight. So when people started saying, ‘You need to talk about this, have you talked about this? Can we hear about this?’ It was more like I was just responding to the community. That’s how my content has transitioned into theories and stuff – it’s really the community of people that I connect with that are coming up with these ideas and pointing these things out.”

People love the way she’s doing it, though, because she’s up to nearly a quarter million followers in just a year.

One of her most popular posts is about how the vampires in the series are actually faeries.

The theory poses that the Cullens have too many faery-like tendencies, like glittering in the sun, living in a lush, wooded area, and being both beautiful and fascinated by humans, for it to be a coincidence.

The family just thinks its amusing to let others believe they’re vampires, the story goes.

Other popular video answers are about what Edward did when Bella got her period (they think it has something to do with dead vs fresh blood), how people feel about the treatment of native culture by author Stephenie Meyer, and whether or not Edward and Bella’s relationship is toxic at its core.

“When I initially was reading Twilight, I think it was very much this kind of intoxicating feeling of first love, right? That’s what drew me in the first time I read it, because I was there. I was a big Edward fan. And I think now when I look back at them, I can see the toxicity in the relationships. I just find the whole thing fascinating now.”

Elizabeth, like so many of us, still inexplicably loves the story even though there are so many things to pick apart.

Which is good news for her TikTok channel, and for all of us.

“We will be talking about Twilight. It’s been 15 years. We’re still talking about it; I think that I could keep talking about it forever, probably. I have branched out a little bit lately, just because I can’t read Twilight over and over forever, so I was starting to read some other young adult vampire books.”

If you have any questions or theories about the Twilight books or movies, or want to do a deep dive on a topic that’s been bugging you for all these years, head over and ask on Elizabeth’s TikTok page – there’s a good chance she’ll get into it, if she hasn’t already!
