Weddings tend to bring out the drama in our lives, and in the people who claim to love and support us as well. There’s the money, the fact that we’re entering a big change in our lives, and I don’t know what else, but it’s nuts.
I can’t imagine going through all of that and knowing at the same time that your family and friends don’t support your choice of a spouse – but these 10 people have navigating it and come out the other side.
10. Your wife is your family now.
I hope you have chosen wisely.
9. Both are valid choices.
Also, both can be fun if you’re in the right state of mind.
8. He came through at the last minute.
He probably didn’t want to have regrets.
7. Good friends can make all the difference.
Sometimes our chosen family trumps blood.
6. You know your parents best.
If they don’t deserve to be there, don’t invite them.
5. This is a mature point of view.
Maybe she should reconsider their objections, to be honest.
4. Maybe listen to their reasons.
They just might make sense if you’re open to them.
3. She probably still hates your husband.
She just wants to see her grandkid.
2. The ball is in his court.
If he wants to play, he’ll play, but the regrets will be his.
1. If it’s racist, they’re obviously wrong.
Live long and prosper, my friends.
What I’d love to know is whether or not these relationships will stand the test of time, because those close to us can often see roadblocks we can’t.
