2. Cats can be allergic to humans

Some cats can have asthma. It’s true!

Particularly indoor pets who are exposed to cigarette smoke, dandruff and dust are most likely to have problems with their human counterparts.

3. Cats can detect hidden microphones

Henry Helb was the Dutch ambassador to Russia in the 1960s. One day, he saw his two Siamese cats clawing at a wall where secret microphones were planted.

Ambassador Helb took advantage of the situation and loudly aired all his complaints about the house and some packages he couldn’t get out of customs.

Shortly after, the house repairs were made and his packages showed up.

4. It’s mystery why cats meow

Specialists theorize that cats use their meows for their mother’s attention. Now, domestic cats meow at their people for the same reason–attention!

They typically don’t meow at each other, though.

6. Cats In Space!

Astro-cat Félicette was launched into space by French scientists, October 18, 1963.

7. Cats knead you to mark their territory

They have scent glands in their paws, so when they knead you when sitting in your lap, their scent is marking you as theirs. Kittens also knead their mothers to get the milk going.

Carrying the behavior into adulthood is known as neotenic behavior.

8. Cats have special receptors for catnip

Catnip has a chemical compound called nepetalactone, which triggers the crazy behavior you see when their nose receptors sense it.

9. President Clinton’s cat, Socks, had his own video game

In the early 1990s, Super Nintendo Entertainment System made a game called Socks the Cat. It was never released and the publisher shut down.

Tom Curtain, a video game collector, found and purchased the only copy ever made and partnered with another publisher, Second Dimension, to release Socks the Cat Rocks The Hill in 2018.
