Brace Yourself: Not Everyone Knows About Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches

If you are a person who grew up in America, there’s a 100% chance that you understand the deal with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. People say things are as “American as apple pie,” but in reality, a love for peanut butter and jelly together between two slices of bread is the thing that binds more of us together.

And I say that as a woman who has been allergic to peanuts her entire life.

So you can imagine the genuine confusion and surprise that most of us feel at the moment we realize our beloved national sandwich just isn’t a thing elsewhere in the world.

10. This person really wants to understand!

You can’t understand it without experiencing it, I’m told.

9. What is this jam that you speak of?

If it’s like jelly then yes, it goes with peanut butter.

8. It’s one of the only things that isn’t a lie in the movies.

But why would it be a joke, though?

7. We are a bunch of weirdos.

Not just because of the peanut butter and jelly, though.

6. I would have thought she was just messing with me.

At least with Twitter you can have corroboration.

5. I need to find out how and when this was invented now.

Time to dive into a research hole!

4. Can confirm this is absolutely a thing.

I mean, we think that about everything, though.

3. Yes, yes, that’s right.

Most of us are darn proud of it, too.

2. See, you just have to try it!

Like with all things that sound gross until you give it a go.

1. Wild and crazy sandwich consumption around here!

It’s the wild, wild west all over again.

I mean, it’s not like I eat them, but I honestly thought everyone else did.

Did you know PB&J was American? If you did, tell us the story of how you found out.
