French’s and Oskar Blues Is Offering a Mustard-Flavored Beer

Listen, the recent months have been so far from the status quo that I honestly believed nothing could surprise me anymore. Like…whatever this year wants to throw at me, fine – I’ll just shrug and go about my business.

I’m honestly not sure I can look the other way with this mustard-flavored beer, though, because, come on. No one even likes to eat just mustard.

No one asked me, though, and so French’s decided that the perfect BBQ beer would be something that sort of tastes like your hot dog, but alcoholic. I guess.

They announced the new offering on National Mustard Day, and revealed plans to launch a limited-edition of the craft beer on CraftShack. It will also be available at select Oskar Blues Brewery locations throughout Colorado and North Carolina.

Last year on National Mustard Day, French’s gifted (?) us with a mustard ice cream.

Ok, so @frenchs has come out with mustard ice cream. I like mustard and all but not sure I could do this. What about y’all? #girlswhotravel #instapassport #tourist #traveltheworld #foodblogger #foodphotography #foodwriter #frenchsmustard #mustard #mustardicecream #icecream

Said Jill Pratt, chief marketing excellence officer at French’s…

“The incredible reaction to last year’s release of our Mustard Ice Cream showed us how far people are willing to go to savor this favorite condiment.

We promise this French’s Mustard Beer will not disappoint, either.”

According to the Oskar Blues website, the beer is a “semi-tart tropical wheat beer infused with citrus fruits” like key lime, lemon, tangerine, and passionfruit that complement the “spice and zip of the mustard.”

Yup, you heard that right, mustard beer! It's the latest creation from @oskarblues and @frenchs which will either entice you to try it, or possibly just repulse you at the thought of it. . Either way they sold out fast on 08/01/20 which was not only the release of this beer, but also "National Mustard Day." So, people either love the novelty of it or just really love the thought of the flavor profile of a mustard beer. Of course it does have tangerine, passion fruit, lemon & keylime puree in it too, which they call it a tropical wheat beer, so it can't be that bad. In fact I think the mustard would bring a nice tartness to the tropical citrus notes that are going on in this beer. . If you are as curious about this beer as I am, you can sign up for a notification as to when the beer will be back on craftshack.com. So, they should be making more for those of us who didn't get to try it, but until then I've included the homebrew recipe here for those who want it, as well as a their recipe for mustard sausages. I'm hungry already, might need a giant pretzel too, lol. . You can also check out mustardbeer.com for more info, enjoy & cheers! 🍻

Reviews suggest the beer is better than it sounds, stating that the mustard flavor is faint and run over by the fruit, that it’s light and summery, and actually does pair well with a hot dog.

I suppose this could be one of those “don’t knock it until you’ve tried it scenarios, but honestly…you first.
