This Cat Cartoon Nails America’s Gun Problem in a Way Even Our Politicians Can Understand

Gun control has very much remained a staple of the news cycle ever since last month’s Parkland school shooting, and that is a wonderful thing. While it used to be a topic of conversation that immediately died down within days following previous gun massacres (Sandy Hook, Pulse, Vegas, etc.), Americans are finally refusing to let the matter lie. Most agree, bipartisanship notwithstanding: something needs to change.

Sometimes comedy is the best way to talk about serious topics. Humans use humor to deal with tragedy and to highlight the absurdity of life. The following video, made by Alex Clark and his animation studio, broke down America’s gun situation in an easily digestible way: Cats. It’s fittingly titled ‘Guns Explained With Cats’ and it amassed over 1 million views in only four days.

“If you’re still not sure what to do about guns, let me explain it to you using this awful cat,” begins the video.

Clark presents his argument:

Now before we start, we can all agree that banning cats won’t get rid of all cats. And that the majority of people that do own cats, are good people. Not every cat is an awful cat. And I happen to love a cute cuddly cat.

Lets say you’re at the movies or church or school when out of nowhere a cat pops up and claws you in the face. Suddenly, you might want to do something about this awful cat.

Now I live on this street that had one awful stay cat and when no one did anything about it, one cat turned into dozens and they were all clawing people in the face.

And its all because my neighbor, the crazy cat lady Mrs. Nra was leaving out giant piles of treats. For cats. So you explain to your neighbor that maybe it would be ok to have a couple rules for these cats. Now, you would hope that a good neighbor would understand, but she freaks out and yells at you that you’re trying to ban all cats.

And you’re just like, hey, I just don’t want to get clawed in the face. I’m not banning anything!

His argument is very good. And funny. And kinda cute. Watch the full video below.
