A few weeks ago, comedian John Oliver made headlines when his HBO show, Last Week Tonight, bought a whole bunch of memorabilia from Russel Crowe’s movies at an auction that the actor held to “get rid of stuff” after his divorce. Seriously… this is already hilarious.

Among the many items Oliver bought were things like the backs of set chairs from Crowe’s famous co-stars, a costume vest from Les Misérables, and a jockstrap worn by Crowe himself in Cinderella Man.

Crowe ended up making $3 million dollars off that auction (DAMN), but Crowe decided the money he got from John Oliver should go to a worthy cause instead.

He ended up donating the money to the Australia Zoo. Specifically, he donated it to the koala chlamydia ward! On an unrelated note, who knew that was a problem for koalas?!

The Australia Zoo was made famous by Steve Irwin and is now looked after by his family – Terri, Bindi, and Robert. The Irwins recorded a thank you video to Crowe and Oliver for the donation. Towards the end of it, you see that the ward has been named after John Oliver, plaque and all.

Oliver was absolutely delighted when he found out, saying “That may honestly be the greatest thing I’ve ever seen.” He then told viewers the show was officially over, because there’s no way to top that (he returned the following week).
