Still recovering from the “Yanny vs. Laurel” debate? Take your mind off of things with this even more puzzling piece of audio.
Twitter user George Aylett uploaded a video of a kids toy that flashes and says something when you press it. The only problem is, it says something different depending on what you are thinking about. Don’t believe us? See for yourself…
Some people have even reported hearing mixes like “green storm” or “brain needle.”
As mind-blowing as this is, the science behind it is the same as “Yanny vs. Laurel.” People who are more sensitive to lower frequencies tend to hear “brainstorm,” while people who have a sensitivity to higher frequencies hear “green needle.” So, since this clip is right in the middle of low and high frequency, and the audio quality is not very good, our brains can be nudged one way or the other as long as we’re thinking of a specific phrase.
But is it actually one or the other? The answer comes to us from HuffPost U.K., who traced the clip back to a toy review video to reveal that the toy’s name is really “Brainstorm.”
Geez… remember the good ol’ days when we only had one simple dress to argue over?
