Lil Nas X Claps Back After Some Parents Are Upset About His New Single

I can’t believe that we’re still having version of this conversation – the one where parents somehow think it’s the job of their kid’s favorite celebrity to somehow keep other people’s children in mind while making career and life decisions for themselves.

That goes double when the artist in question, like Lil Nas X, never claimed to be making content for children in the first place.

We all know that his single “Old Town Road” was a smash hit with pretty much everyone alive, but especially with kids – even though, as Lil Nas pointed out during this clap back against parents on Twitter, was never an age-appropriate ditty.

His new song, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” is also a song by an adult for other adults, and the video is definitely for mature audiences, as well – it features, among other things, Lil Nas X sliding down a pole to hell in order to have some *cough* one-on-one time with the Devil.

Parents freaked out, but you know what? Lil Nas X wasn’t having any of it, reminding them that…

“I am an adult. I am not gonna spend my entire career trying to cater to your children. That is your job.”

I mean, he’s not wrong. Parents make the decision on what media their kids can consume. Parents tell them to turn it off if it’s not appropriate.

Lil Nas is not your kid’s teacher, he’s not their babysitter, and he’s not a role model – those are all your jobs, so act accordingly.
