Mickey Town: Disney Has Announced Plans for Themed Residential Communities

There are a lot of hardcore fans out there who are willing to fork out a ton of money year after year to enjoy all the things the Disney universe has to offer: theme parks, merchandise, movies, etc.

And now the most dedicated Disney fans can really show their loyalty to the brand in a new way.

The company is going into the master-planned residential community business to please folks who want “new ways to make Disney a bigger part of their lives.”

The Storyliving by Disney project will be carried out by the Disney Imagineers who design the company’s theme parks. In addition, Disney employees will run the community associations in these new developments.

The first community will be called Cotino. The plan calls for the 618-acre property to be built in Rancho Mirage, California. The development will contain residential neighborhoods as well as a district that includes dining, shopping, a park, a hotel, and a 24-acre lagoon. After Cotino is completed, the plan is to expand and build more communities.

Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Josh D’Amaro said, “As we prepare to enter our second century, we are developing new and exciting ways to bring the magic of Disney to people wherever they are, expanding storytelling to storyliving.”

It will be interesting to see how this project develops. We’ll be keeping an eye on it.
