The beautiful and historic city of New Orleans is known for its great cafés, amazing music, parties, and architecture. While it’s true that climate change is affecting the cityscape, one Twitter user decided to satirize the city’s unorthodox design.

James L. Sutter pointed out that there are some strange things about the way things in NOLA are named. He also poked some fun at where some people built their houses, and where the city placed its freeways.

First, he showed us the map in question and called it a fantasy map.

Sutter explained why that river was totally “off.”

And yes, there are house in some dumb places.

Who lives there?!?! Someone pretty brave, that’s who!

Of course, Sutter found some weird things about the city’s can*l system.

What even is that? Who designed this? WHY does it exist?

He took the map up to task for calling a non-lake a lake.

Sutter then poked of the city’s decision to build a bridge in an impractical location.

NOLA is also known for its swampy areas.

Of course, he pointed out that cartographers aren’t going to take their time to draw every little thing.

Then he called the city’s bluff and asked them to redesign their city.

Yes, the city design of New Orleans is a bit strange. There are many factors that can explain why. In the meantime, it’s a great place to visit.

What did you think of Sutter’s satirical critique of New Orleans’ design? Are there any other cities you think are planned a bit strangely?

Let us know why in the comments!
