Anyone who has ever been married knows that there are some days when it can feel impossible to keep going.

When you feel like throwing in the towel, walking away, would be such a simple and elegant solution that you really, truly think about taking it.

Caring for another person day in, day out, is exhausting work, and honestly, I’m not sure people who claim it’s never been hard are really getting down to the nitty gritty (but perhaps some folks are just lucky).

It can be exhausting to read about romanticized views of marriage, to watch them play out on television and in the movies, because it can start to make us feel like there’s something wrong with us for struggling.

It’s nice, I think, to have a reality check from people with a platform once in awhile – and that’s something singer Pink has never been afraid to give us.

Pink has been married to professional motocross racer Carey Hart for fifteen years, since their 2006 wedding in Costa Rica.

They’ve since had two children, nine-year old Willow and three-year-old Jameson.

She recently shared a candid message confessing that even though the two have had their fair share of obstacles, she believes the journey has been worth it.

“He’s still my favorite, sweet little dirt-ball. He and I have been at this a long time, and it is our relentless and stubborn idealism that keeps us together.

Marriage is awful, wonderful, comfort, and rage. It is boring, terrifying, and a total nail-biter. It is loving another fallible creature while trying to love yourself.

It is a lifetime of coming back to the table. People laugh at us because we’re either fighting or laughing. They roll their eyes when we talk about therapy. But I’ll tell you what, it’s worth it. All of it. Even when it isn’t.”

I’ve got a few years under my belt, too, and I have to say that I agree.

Bless her, and me, and everyone else coming back to the table every single day. We’ve got this.
