The new Popeyes chicken sandwich continues to wreak havoc on the world. It has caused robberies, fights, the destruction of a car, and at least one actual death. As people all over the country struggle to get their hands on the coveted sandwich, one Popeyes employee decided to take matters into his own hands.
A Popeyes employee in Los Angeles stole sandwiches from the restaurant to sell them as a side hustle.
We have to imagine that there’s actually a pretty good black market for these things, which is astounding because…it’s a chicken sandwich. I mean, what would you pay for an under-the-table sandwich?
When other workers at the location found out about the secret business, they confronted the employee in question. Pandemonium broke out. TMZ shared a video of the employees fighting behind the counter. They can be seen swinging at each other and one employee is heard screaming, “You f*cking hit me, bitch!”
The incident took place less than a week after someone was killed over a Popeyes sandwich at a location in Maryland: a man who cut in line in front of several others was fatally stabbed.
A Popeyes spokesperson called the stabbing a “tragedy.”
“We are saddened to hear about this senseless act of violence,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “We, along with the franchisee, are fully cooperating with local authorities and actively working to gather more information.”
Suspect Ricoh McClain has been arrested for first- and second-degree murder, among other charges.
Despite the chaos, Popeyes has made no indication that they’ll be pulling the sandwich from the menu anytime soon.
