Chopping garlic is not that hard, but getting all those cloves out of their peels? It can be a pain in the ass.

That’s why chefs love to come up with ~tricks~ to make it easier to peel a lot of garlic at once. You can smash it with a knife or shake it in a bowl, for example.

Thanks to Twitter, we also now have the “knife plucking” method, which has gone viral because it looks SO easy and fast and why hasn’t anyone shared this trick before???

Basically, you stick a sharp knife directly into the entire garlic head, stab a clove, and pluck the clove out with the knife.

Even people who cook a lot and use garlic constantly have never seen this trick before.

Ahem, Chrissy Teigen.

It almost seems too good to be true, which is why many people immediately found some garlic and a knife to test it out at home.

The good news: It really does work, though it takes a bit of practice to get the hang of it and do it as quickly as it’s being done in the original video.

Some people struggled to get the trick to work, though; they ended up with broken cloves or cloves with the peel still on. It likely depends on the type and age of the garlic as well as the type of knife used.

As one Twitter user put it: “This kind of info exchange is why the internet exists.”
