Sometimes getting arrested works out for the best. That’s the lesson Shia Yearwood learned after she got arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina.

When Yearwood attempted to visit her son at her parents’ house, her ex reported her of being in violation of a restraining order, and Yearwood turned herself in to police. But there was a silver lining in this story – Yearwood’s mugshot photo went viral because her braids looked so damn good.

People on Twitter took notice and things progressed from there.

Yearwood herself got involved in the conversation and answered the question on everyone’s mind: who did her hair? Turns out she did it herself.

Yearwood says she learned to braid her own hair when she was 7 – her grandmother taught her. And she thought she’d use the attention to get some work. And it’s worked, as Yearwood has been booked up with appointments.

In an Instagram post, Yearwood explained that she thought her mugshot might end up on social media because it’s common in Charlotte. So she wanted to look good for the camera.

Yearwood also said, “It’s more embarrassing because it’s not like I went viral off my hair alone. It’s attached to a mugshot, so people’s perception of me might change, and that’s the only thing I didn’t like. Once they see a mugshot you’re automatically guilty and that’s not true.”

Might as well turn a negative into a positive!
