1. Late Start

Larson got her first break in 1998 when she was 8 years old on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’ as a Girl Scout. Just a few years later she landed a recurring role on ‘Raising Dad.’ But her biggest break was being cast as Envy Adams in ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’.

5. Fungi Fanatic

What does Brie do for fun? You probably never would have guess this, but tops on her list is foraging for mushrooms!

“I am part of a mycological society in Los Angeles and we go foraging – you have to go about an hour outside Los Angeles to find them, but I also like to attend the Wine and Mushroom Festival in Mendocino [Northern California].”

But why? Seems like the culinary arts had something to do with it.

“Cooking got me more interested in where food came from and how things grow and mushrooms became so fascinating to me. If you understood the way that the spores have to hit each other, the temperatures that it has to be at and the stages that it takes just to exist, you would be amazed that there has ever been one mushroom!”

6. Showbiz Name

Brie Larson is not her real name. It’s actually Brianne Sidonie Desaulniers.

Try saying that 5 times fast!

7. Isolation

For her role in ‘Room’ she stayed at home for a month and meditated. So what did she think about?

From the BBC:

“I reminisced a lot about my past – on certain regrets or moments missed. I figured it was a process that Ma had gone through before Jack came along.”

She also wrote diaries from the perspective of her character as a 10, 14 and 17-year-old.

“I wanted to create this very full back story for her of what her hopes and dreams were and what her fears were. It might be about body image issues or fights she had with her mum or the boy she had a crush on – the typical growing pains.”

8. Almost Captain Missed

Most actors jump at the chance to play a Marvel superhero, but not Brie. She had her doubts.

From the AP:

“I never want to make artistic decisions that will feel like a burden or that would take me away from the parts of my life that I find fulfilling, so Marvel was super patient and allowed me a lot of time to think it over.

And then once I felt like I had made the right decision – which was doing it – I got both feet in and I’m really happy.”

Phew! That was a close one.
