PokéScout Claims They’ve Mapped Every Gym…but Have They?

PokéScout says they’ve mapped every gym in the world.

Not only that, but their interactive map hopes to track who owns each of those gyms at any given time. That way, you don’t have to get all winter-geared up to find out if a gym is worth visiting.

That’s the idea, anyhow.

But there’s a problem, and it’s kind of a big one: They don’t really have all the gyms.

With just a cursory glance at my Denver Metro location on the map, I noticed two of my regular gyms missing. A bit longer, and I noticed several more.

The red X marks a missing gym:

That red dot in the bottom-left corner is a gym they found, but, as you can see, the map of this small block in Aurora, CO is missing at least three others.

1 out of four is pretty bad.

Sure, I guess I could still use the map to check on that one stop, but that’s assuming it’s updated by other users.

Spoiler alert – it’s not:

They also have this cool page where I can see who “owns the city:”

Another great feature…if it works.

Team Mystic is supposedly crushing it with 52% of the Aurora gyms, but can we trust these numbers?

Sadly, I don’t think we can.

They clearly don’t have all of the gyms in the world. They don’t even have all of the gyms in one square mile of Aurora, CO.

The whole system relies on users to claim the gyms on the site once they take them IRL, but that sounds like a lot of work – I can’t imagine all players will be on board.

And they sort of have to be in order for the system to work.

Plus, I have to go to a different map to track Pokémon or Pokéstops?!

Maybe I don’t get it.

Are any of you using it?

Does it work better in your town?

Are you finding a use for it that my elderly brain simply can’t conceive of?

Or were these two articles I read just hired guns repping a half-baked product on the sly?

Let me know what you think.
